Wedding cake and cupcakes?

i like the idea of having cupcakes instead of cake for the guests because it is different and also because i will have a chocolate fountain as well. but i was wondering what anyone thought about still having a small wedding cake for the groom and i to cut and get the pictures and bring home. i heard that some do a small cake to take home for the 1 yr anniversary? i am trying to keep my options open for different things to do. any help would be greatly appreciated!
