White discharge and lump from closed earring hole?

ten years ago I had my ears pierced. I didn't have any problems until a few years later when my ears couldn't tolerate any kinds of metals, no matter what I did they were always infected and red so I stopped wearing them. It has been nearly 7 years since I've worn earrings and I assumed they would close up but this whole time there has been a hard lump where the piercing once was. The back is closed up but the front still appears to be open. If I put pressure on it pushing from the back of the lobe some thick white discharge comes out the front and the lump goes away for a while but it always comes back. It doesn't hurt but I wonder if there is something I could do to keep this from recurring all the time. There also seems to be a mild odor from it and I am just wondering how I can make it stop happening.
